Everyone come join the book parade!


The highly anticipated World Book Day is here and the children have certainly shown up for the occasion! We are so impressed with their storybook characters, it's as if they jumped right out of the book! 📚There was a buzz of excitement in the air as we celebrated the joy that books bring us, and children loved it when we were able to guess what storybook character they are dressed up as 😀

At the beginning of Open Play, all K2 classes participated in the Book Parade. Every class had their moment to shine as they walked up and down the "catwalk", with some children even striking a pose! The rest of us were an enthusiastic audience as we clapped to the music and cheered them on. 

After all the classes had a turn, it was time for the teachers to strut their stuff! We paraded to the song The Freeze Dance and some of the children got up to dance along with us. 

Thank you all grown-ups at home who helped to make such creative costumes. What a memorable World Book Day it was!

Last day of K2

I hope everyone stayed safe and dry yesterday during the rainstorms! Thankfully, the rain has eased and today we were very eager to welcome the children back to school for Party Day 😀 There was a buzz of excitement in the air as children stepped off the bus and entered through our school doors in their party clothes. The children themselves planned for this last week of school, which included making party decorations for the classroom and what games and activities they could do with their friends. Inquiry update: How are the children expressing themselves?

The K2 children are in the thick of the Unit of Inquiry with the central idea being " People can express ideas and experiences in different ways ". At this stage of the school year, children are now much more aware of their own capabilities and preferences as a learner, and hence exercise agency in determining how they communicate their ideas to others, and how they like to express themselves.  Through interacting daily with peers in learning and play, they are developing a conceptual understanding of perspective  - both their own, and that of others. This has enabled them to work towards one of the learning outcomes of the unit " Our experiences and imagination can inspire us to create ".   We had a lovely assembly Zoom today with the K2 children :) We sang English and Chinese carols, Santa paid a visit, and Suzie & Stripey were super excited to see the whole Hillside community together!
