Welcome back to Term 2!
Welcome back everyone! I hope you've all had a restful and fun winter break, and staying warm especially in the past week! 🌬🌬 As we resume distance learning, teachers are looking forward to seeing the children again and have planned lots of engaging learning to support children's transition back into "school mode". I'm sure your child is also excited to see their friends and teachers on Zoom, and to share their winter break experiences with everyone!
To support your child in transitioning from their holiday back into a school routine, you may consider the following tips:
- Have your child follow a daily routine as if they're going to school (i.e. get up from bed, brush teeth, get dressed in their school uniform, eat breakfast, sit down in a space ready to learn)
- Review expectations: remind your child there is a time and place for different behaviors; for example, during Zoom they need to practice focusing with whole body listening, and during free play time they can have more choice over their play.
- Review your child's learning space, try to minimize environmental noise (especially when Zooming) and clear clutter to encourage focus on the task
- Praise effort "Wow I love how you raised your hand when you wanted to share your idea on Zoom. I know it can be hard to wait, and you tried so hard practicing being patient!"
- Display the learning your child has completed, such as artwork or photos of them engaging in their learning. It shows you value their learning and also prompts conversation!

During December and beyond, children had fun engaging with learning experiences provided through the Skills Builders slide. Let's take a glimpse into the learning they did at home:
Moving forward, we encourage you to continue accessing these activities in your own time at a pace that works for your family. In particular, uploading learning done from the "yellow action box" in the Skills Builders support teachers in gaining a more comprehensive view of your child's progress and understanding of the unit of inquiry.
As always, if we can better support your child's learning and development in any way, please reach out to your child's class teacher, or me! We look forward to continuing a strong home-school partnership with you.
